The longtime collaborator of the French fashion house succeeds Virgil Abloh

Pharrell is a well-known figure in the fashion industry, having previously collaborated with major brands such as Moncler, Adidas, Tiffany and Co., Human Made, as well as owning self-made brands like Billionaire Boys Club, Ice Cream, and his skincare line, Humanrace. Not only is Pharrell qualified to spearhead the creative direction of an established fashion house, but his background proves he is one of the most promising creative artists of his generation.

On Feb. 15, Louis Vuitton announced that Pharrell will be the new creative director of the brand’s men’s line, and he will be presenting his first collection during men’s fashion week in Paris in June 2023.

In 2004, the “Happy” singer first collaborated with Louis Vuitton alongside Nigo for a sunglass collection called “Millionaire.” Fast forward to 2008, he worked with the brand again to introduce a new jewelry collaboration titled “Blason.”

“I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new Men’s Creative Director,” says Pietro Beccari, Louis Vuitton’s chairman and CEO. “His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new and very exciting chapter.”

Pharrell is a follower and enthusiast of streetwear culture, which is not disassociated with what Virgil Abloh left for Louis Vuitton. With the artist’s arrival at the fashion house, it remains to be seen whether he will continue with the elevated streetwear trend on the runway or go in a different direction. Whichever direction he takes, Pharrell for Louis Vuitton marks a new era for the maison.
