LOOK: Balenciaga deletes all of its posts on social media accounts

The French fashion house is the latest to do a social media clean up after Italian luxury label Bottega Veneta

A quick Balenciaga search on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter and you’ll see empty walls as it recently deleted all its social media releases. Among the brand’s last posts included its collaboration with drag queen RuPaul Charles.

There are no reports yet on why the French luxury brand took a digital detox, but it is likely to be related to its upcoming couture presentation on July 7, 2021. It is reported that the runway show will be the haute couture debut of Demna Gvasalia, Balenciaga’s creative director, making its social media clean up more like a revamp.

“Couture represents freedom of creativity and freedom in fashion. And that’s maybe the reason why I wanted to do it so badly,” he confessed to WWD. “I believe strongly that couture actually may save fashion, in its modern way….It can actually become the driving force of fashion again, because you’re free from the constraints of industrial production.”

The Georgian fashion is also known for not being fond of social media. His Instagram page alone, which has over 70,000 followers, doesn’t have single content. In his latest interview with Vogue UK, he described social media as “boring and dangerously addictive for some, as well as super manipulative.”

“Even though it still kind of offers a freedom of personal expression, I wish these platforms would motivate real creativity, trigger intellectual and cultural evolution, and less of the limited buzz-motivated entertainment and digital bullying,” he said.

Early this year, Italian fashion Bottega Veneta did the same things by signing off from Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter as part of the label’s new marketing strategy.
