Get your closets (and pockets) ready for this designer collaboration with H&M

London-based designer Erdem Moralioglu, known for his delicate florals and use of bold colors, has created his first ever menswear collection in collaboration with H&M.

Inspired by childhood memories, his design signatures, and his own personal style, ERDEM X H&M explores several themes to create a complete wardrobe that is completely unique to H&M. Moralioglu’s sharp and poetic take on menswear staples—herringbone suits, tweed coats, and the perfect hoodie—breathes new life to the tried-and-true classics.

In an interview with Vogue Australia, Moralioglu says that his collection is a way for him to “dialogue between the two worlds” of menswear and womenswear. He adds, “Because so much of the past 12 years is woven into the collection, it felt so good to have the opportunity to look at the things I’ve done in the past and redevelop them—it was so exciting. The whole project has felt so personal.”

Moralioglu was influenced by his father’s wardrobe, but the designer makes the traditional modern with sharp suits and winter coats. Neat blazers are in either fine gray herringbone or faint windowpane check, with a ticket pocket that evokes the countryside. The lining is black-on-black floral jacquard and set off by contrast stitching and grosgrain ribbon trim. Matching pants are cut equally sharp and cropped at the ankle. Moralioglu also drew inspiration from his Canadian childhood in developing the neat and fitted winter coats. With some in Harris Tweed, the coats have removable linings for extra warmth.

The collection wouldn’t be authentic ERDEM without his expressive floral prints—and they appear often in his debut men’s collection. Patterns that mimic scattered wild flowers show up on a burgundy zip-up hooded nylon shell, burgundy short-sleeve shirts, and khaki green crew-neck 100 percent organic cotton T-shirts. A 100 percent silk olive green pajama shirt and matching wide pants with white piping trim reminds one of re-purposed ‘60s country wallpaper, with its more formal floral pattern.

Men’s essentials are given the ERDEM treatment. The basic men’s hoodie features an H&M-exclusive subversion of the ERDEM logo, and comes in the softest brushed 100 percent organic cotton. The white Oxford shirt has an exact slim fit, while fluffy mohair sweaters are in vivid blue or a graphic take on Fair Isle. Moralioglu also updated the khaki green Canadian utilitarian parka to make it perfect for the city, with a removable faux-shearling lining and zippers in white gold.

Floral patterns are also found in the collection’s accessories, with printed florals on slip-on leather sneakers, the essential backpack, socks, and silk/cotton and silk/wool scarves. A classic leather Derby shoe has brogue detailing at the toe, and a herring bone tie adds extra sharpness to the tailoring.

ERDAM X H&M also features a women’s collection.

ERDEM X H&M will be available in about 220 stores worldwide and on hm.com, beginning November 2.
