Showcasing playful iterations of the Le Pliage Bag
Heritage brand Longchamp continues its collaborative streak by partnering with Toiletpaper Studio for a playful capsule collection featuring their Le Pliage silhouette.
For the latest offering, Toiletpaper reimagines the bags using Longchamp motifs, such as the sprinting horse logo and leather piping, as their main inspiration. They also incorporate Gallic symbols like the baguette and the French bulldog.
“We try to invent, to make life not boring,” says Maurizio Cattelan, artist and co-founder of Toiletpaper. ““We try to use the codes of the contemporary moment, which helps us to surprise people. We want to help them see what is surrounding them from a different perspective. For this collaboration with Longchamp, we wanted to play with the codes of French icons and of the maison so that they became alive again. Each image can be seen from multiple different points of view – there isn’t just one message,” adds Pierpaolo Ferrari, photographer and co-founder of Toiletpaper.
The capsule collection features five original designs of the Le Pliage: a travel bag, handbag, tote bag, pouch, and cowhide keychains, all available in vibrant colors such as candy pink, sky blue, and sunshine yellow. In addition to the mischievous visuals, silk ribbons also showcase a collaborative logo that cleverly combines the names of the two brands as “TOILETCHAMPLONGPAPER.”
“At Longchamp, we are always inspired by the intersection of fashion and art,” says Sophie Delafontaine, Longchamp creative director. “We were really enthused by Toiletpaper’s unique way of combining art, fashion, and pop-culture references with a dose of humor. We felt their bold aesthetic and lighthearted approach to life tallied with Longchamp’s colorful vision of optimistic luxury.”
