ICYMI: The 2022 Pinoy K-pop Star Competition held at SM MOA
The event aimed to promote Korean culture through music
The rise of K-pop influence in the country continues to soar. With this, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the Philippines, Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines, and KBS World, in partnership with SM Supermalls, gathered top class Filipino talents in search for music artists and groups to represent the country in the upcoming 2022 Changwon K-pop World Festival in Korea.
The K-pop filled day started with an open stage led by the Philippine K-pop Convention Inc. (PKCI), featuring fan merch booths, games, and performances from K-pop fan cover groups, P-pop boy group VXON, and rising P-pop girl group KAIA.
For the competition, 10 aspirants vied to win the chance of representing our country internationally. In the performance category, girl group ALPHA bagged the grand prize with their performance of “O.O” by NMIXX while in the vocal category, Joy Lorenze Locsin won with the performance of “So What” by Hyolyn.
Korean Embassy Consul General Lee Kyooho led the distinguished panel of judges which included Anne Luis, head of the Sentro-Rizal Cultural Affairs Office (NCCA); Dasuri Choi, content creator and celebrity; Happee Sy-Go, vice president and COO of Pulp Live World Production Inc.; and Joseph Francia, first vice president of GMA International.
