MICHAEL KORS ACQUIRED VERSACE
Michael Kors Holdings has acquired the Italian luxury brand founded in 1978 by Gianni Versace for USD2.12 billion. Donatella Versace, the late designer’s sister who took over the fashion house after his murder in 1997, has stated that it is about time for the brand to join forces with Michael Kors after 20 years of her taking over the company. “I’ve been approached by many interested parties, but I know this deal is the right one for this company — both now and for our future,” Versace said to The New York Times. “Their passion and vision for Versace is clear and completely in line with mine.”
She will still serve as Versace’s artistic director together with her brother Santo and her daughter Allegra; the three will also get about USD177 million worth of shares. Michael Kors Holdings Limited will be called Capri Holdings Limited once the deal is officially closed.
