Suntory introduces Sui Gin to the Philippines

Clean and refreshing—this is how I like my cocktails. One of my drinks of choice during a night out is gin and tonic. For everyone who prefers the same, I truly recommend this new Japanese gin brand, Sui.

Last June 23, Suntory introduced Sui Gin to a number of press and influencers in Manila. They gathered everyone at 102 Izakaya at Glorietta Mall to give a taste of this clean and refreshing liquor.

What makes Sui Gin so thirst-quenching? The gin mixes botanicals that are distinctly Japanese: yuzu, green tea, and ginger. “Combined with traditional gin botanicals—juniper berry, coriander seed, angelica root, cardamom, cinnamon, bitter orange peel, and lemon peel—the result is a gin that is clear, refreshing, and pairs well with any and all dishes,” described the brand.

“Yuzu is commonly used to accentuate flavor in Japanese dishes. It lends a refreshing citrus aroma and taste that opens up the palate. Green tea offers gentle umami notes for a rich body that harmonizes with meals. Finally, Ginger offers a mild spicy flavor with a clean aftertaste, leading to an invigorating finish,” added the brand.

During the event, world-class Filipino mixologist Mark Herrera also shared some cocktail recipes using Sui. He also shared how ratio is important in curating a drink. Here are his recommendations:

Sui Gin and Soda: This is the classic and most recommended way to enjoy Sui Gin. It is a mixture of one part Sui Gin with four parts soda water.

Sui Sonic: To add a little depth and complexity to your serve, Mark recommends a splash of tonic water for a more refreshing taste.

Bonus tips: Aside from the two classic recommendations, he also advised to mix up the serve. He encouraged a squeeze of lemon, a tablespoon of yuzu juice, raw grated ginger, or even green tea. If you’re looking to give your drink a more unique taste, adding crushed plum, wasabi, shiso leaves, or frozen orange will add more personality to your drink.

Sui Gin is now available in S&R stores nationwide and coming soon at your nearest supermarkets and liquor stores, as well as GrabMart, Lazada, Boozy, and Boozeshop.
