Converse x Rick Owens brings out your radical side

It’s pretty dark and we love every bit of it

Converse has officially announced another collaboration; this time, it’s with goth-loving designer Rick Owens. The Paris-based creative is giving a dark twist to Converse’s Chuck 70 classic.

According to the brand, the collaboration is all about being unconventional. “Southern California native Rick Owens has revolutionized form and function throughout his career,” states Converse through an Instagram post. “By rearticulating classic pieces and high-end luxury style through a rebellious lens, he emerged from the glam-rock and grunge underground to become one of fashion’s essential iconoclasts. His DRKSHDW diffusion line, launched in 2005, blends punk edge with couture-like sophistication.”

Converse describes the aesthetic as disruptive formality saying, “embracing traditional structure and then blowing it up. Rick Owens crafts a Chuck 70 unlike any other. And it’s only the beginning for Converse x DRKSHDW.”

With two reiterations of the classic model, the Rick Owens DRKSDHW x Converse TURBODRK Chuck 70 Ox sports a square-toe design, an extended tongue with co-branded logos that comes in black and white colorways.

Talking about warping the classic model and giving his own spin to it, Rick Owens says, “When I see something ubiquitous, I feel like I want to distort it. I don’t know what that’s about. Maybe it’s some kind of adolescent rage. But that’s one of the greatest appeals of the Chuck Taylor All Star.”
