Manila Fashion Festival x Garage Magazine: Jinggo Inoncillo
Fusing graphic arts with fashion, menswear designer Jinggo Inoncillo draws from his childhood memories for his latest menswear presentation for #MFFxGarage. In particular, Inoncillo uses Funny Komik’s “Combatron,” the robot kid character by Berlin H. Manalaysay, as the focal design for his summer 2018 capsule collection.
“It’s always fun to look back, reflect, and incorporate these childish ideas into something current,” he muses with enthusiasm. “I’m a fan of street style dressing so I thought, ‘What better way to fuse this style with my favorite childhood characters?’ I would love to wear the trench coat with comic character detail at the back to one of my future trips abroad, [like] Japan. It would be nice to be wearing something that reminds me of my childhood.”
Albeit the intimate design reference for Inoncillo, he still believes his clothes are inclusive of today’s modern men, especially those who live an active lifestyle. The designer explains, “I’m targeting young and active guys who are outgoing and want to look cool and relaxed, [and are also] smart and adventurous.”
Not only are his pieces stylishly wearable, they are also deeply nostalgic in nature. Props to Inoncillo for bringing forth Filipino arts into modern times!-Rey Ilagan
