Manila Fashion Festival x Garage Magazine: Ziggy Savella
Menswear designer du jour and Garage Street Dapper King Ziggy Savella returns to Manila Fashion Festival with a potent dosage of modern romantic style. Although this sixties-inspired collection is a stretch from his usual utilitarian aesthetic, Savella still infuses his trademark tailoring and craftsmanship in every piece he sent down the #MFFxGarage runway.
“I wanted to take a slight step back,” Savella explains. “And delve into the era-defining rock star fashion of the late 1960s. The Woodstock-chic style seen in [the Cameron Crowe-directed flick] Almost Famous was an inspiration, but [with the intention] to incorporate wearability and ease.”

With a growing clientele list from fashion savants to best dressed celebrities, Savella acknowledges comfort and accessibility at the core of his designs. He continues, “With this in mind, the silhouettes are relaxed, albeit shorter, with slightly bolder prints and more adventurous choices in color than usual. I think the vision is to cater to men who want to explore a more romantic, yet still laid-back, style choice.”
When asked which look is his top pick from the collection, Savella points to the finale ensemble: bright red printed long-sleeves with exaggerated cuffs and loose collar string, and slim fit jet black trousers with ribbon piping, which are accessorized with furry slides and floppy headwear. A welcome change, indeed. We can’t wait to see what else is up his sleeves.–Rey Ilagan
