When summer wrecks your skin, this is where you start

An expert-led skincare event spotlighted hydration, barrier protection, and soothing sensitive skin in peak heat season

Between the blazing heat, sticky commutes, beach weekends, and aggressively air-conditioned rooms, summer skin in the Philippines can feel a little dramatic. One day your skin is glowing, the next it’s red, itchy, dry, or suddenly throwing a tantrum in the form of flare-ups. Chic.

That was the focus of “Skin Sanctuary: A Mother’s Summer Edition,” recently hosted by DMark Beauty and Isispharma Dermatologie at The Peninsula Manila. Instead of positioning skincare as purely cosmetic, the event highlighted something more practical for the season: protecting the skin barrier before irritation gets worse.

Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Wilsie M. Salas-Walinsundin explained that sensitive skin issues tend to spike during warmer months because of increased heat, sweat, and environmental exposure.

“Sensitive skin concerns become more common during summer because heat, sweat, and increased environmental exposures can weaken the skin’s protective barrier, making it more prone to irritation, dryness, and inflammation,” shared Dr. Wilsie.

She also noted that flare-ups can show up differently depending on the person, from redness and itching to dryness, scaling, and recurring eczema. Basically, if your skin suddenly feels moody during summer, there’s an actual reason behind it and not just bad vibes.

The event also spotlighted skincare solutions designed to support compromised skin during the season. One of the featured products was the Isispharma SECALIA ATO Balm, formulated for very dry, sensitive, and eczema-prone skin. Designed as a lipid-replenishing balm, it aims to calm irritation and help restore the skin barrier, especially during periods of environmental stress like peak summer heat.

For redness-prone skin, Isispharma also highlighted its Ruboril range, developed for sensitive skin concerns including rosacea and visible redness. The line focuses on soothing inflammation while helping maintain hydration, something many people unknowingly neglect during hotter months.

More than anything, the event served as a reminder that summer skincare should be less about chasing trends and more about keeping the skin barrier healthy and balanced.
