Hardcore Heat: Guys, grit, and raw physiques

Alvaro pushes past limits with art, abs, and unapologetic energy
Behind Alvaro’s toned frame lies an arsenal of talents. He balanced modeling and acting studies while representing Chile at Mister Global 2023. Now, he’s diving deeper into his creative side, launching both a modeling and singing career in the Philippines. As if his artistic pursuits weren’t enough to keep him busy, Alvaro also maintains a rigorous fitness routine that includes daily 50-minute runs, gym sessions, volleyball training, and swimming.
This summer, he’s drawing inspiration from his travels—especially to La Union and Siargao—to write songs for his upcoming album. “When I travel, I start thinking about a lot of things,” he shares. “The feelings are more intense.” In this interview, Alvaro opens up about his fitness routine and the charm that sets him apart.

How would you describe your fitness routine?
I run for 50 minutes to warm up before the workout. Then I do hypertrophy training at the gym, and I also play volleyball and swim.
What’s your advice for someone starting their fitness journey?
Don’t train every day—your body will hurt a lot. Maybe work out three times a week if your goal is to maintain a healthy body and mind.
What’s the most challenging part of staying fit?
Being consistent—because some days you just don’t feel like following a routine.

And the best part of staying fit?
You feel good at the end of the day—like you’ve accomplished something. It’s fulfilling and makes you happy because you’re doing something productive for your life.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Every morning, I go to Starbucks and get either a mocha chocolate frappuccino or cookies and cream—with a cinnamon roll.
What’s your foolproof tip for a summer body?
For me, swimming and training in the pool works best. I do 100 reps of butterfly stroke and swim for 50 minutes. It really helps develop my lats—my “wings.”
What are your summer essentials?
Perfume, definitely—I never go anywhere without it. Also, deodorant, lipstick, sunscreen, and a nail cutter.
Describe your ideal summer day.
Playing volleyball on the beach with a lot of people. I love staying by the sea, listening to music, and getting inspired.
What’s something people wouldn’t know just by looking at you?
People often think I’m cold or serious at first, but I’m actually very extroverted and sociable.
What body part or characteristic are you most proud of?
My eyes—and my charming personality. That’s definitely my strongest asset.

Teach us a Chilean expression we can use this summer. What does it mean?
“Arranquémonos a la playa!” It literally means, “Let’s escape to the beach!” It’s a spontaneous and fun way to suggest a beach trip.
What are you most proud of about being Chilean?
I’m proud of Chile’s incredible spirit of solidarity. When things get tough, we come together as one.
