LOOK: Acne Studios partners with Frédéric Malle for first-ever perfume
The fragrance bottle features Acne Studios’ signature pink palette
Known for its eccentric and playful take on fashion, Swiss fashion house Acne Studios launches its first-ever fragrance in collaboration with Frédéric Malle.
If you’re a niche fragrance fan, “Portrait of a Lady,” “Carnal Flower,” and “Musc Ravageur” may sound familiar to you. These are some of the most famous fragrances from Frédéric Malle, which have been raved about by scent aficionados in the community.
Acne Studios by Frédéric Malle is created by perfumer Suzy Le Helley, who has previously worked with Hugo Boss and Kenzo fragrances. For the Acne launch, Suzy used aldehydes as the main note for the fragrance, known to be fresh, clean, and soapy. In addition to aldehydes, she also used nuances of rose, peach, vanilla, sandalwood, and musk to create this fresh fragrance.
In a video created for this launch, Frédéric Malle, founder of his namesake brand, revealed that he is secretly a fan of Acne Studios. When he met Jonny Johannson, founder of Acne Studios, he discovered that the latter wears his fragrances. Frédéric also discussed how he sees colors when he smells fragrances, and for Acne Studios’ first perfume, he sees the color of mother of pearl. “This sort of iridescent, almost mother of pearl-like world is very, very typical of what I am seeing when I smell this perfume,” he shared.
Frédéric Malle is owned by Estée Lauder Companies, and it has just been announced that Frédéric is leaving his brand by the end of June 2024.
Frédéric Malle has previously collaborated with other designers, including Dries Van Noten and Alber Elbaz.
