Adidas launches new campaigns for iconic shoe silhouettes

The running community is thriving more than ever, and this relaunch can’t be any more relevant. Adidas Originals reintroduces SL 72, originally crafted to be a “super light” running shoe in the running scene back in the ’70s. It has come back to make the community even more colorful.

Over fifty years ago, this footwear silhouette supported athletes for great agility and speed on the tracks. To this present day, it has become a silhouette recognizable not only for athleticism but also as a classic in the culture of style and fashion.

For this global campaign, the brand is bringing to life two archival looks from the SL series: the blue, white, and red SL72 RS in men’s sizing and the green, white, and yellow SL72 OG W in women’s sizing. Each member of the brand’s T-toe family of silhouettes is reborn for a contemporary context.

Talking about iconic silhouettes, three other footwear comes to mind from the same iconic brand: the Samba, Spezial, and Gazelle. This 2024, Adidas also shines a spotlight on these three sneakers as they launch the “1000 Back” campaign.

First designed for different sports, from training to soccer and handball, since their inception, each classic has continued to make an impact across places, cultures, and movements, and has even become viral among today’s generation of fashion enthusiasts.

For the “1000 Back” campaign, which was shot and directed by Vincent Haycock, Carlisle Aikens, a professional skateboarder and member of Adidas Skate Team, makes his way through a street filled with people from different backgrounds, sporting their own personal ways of styling the three silhouettes, creating a tableau of life seen through the story of a thousand originals.
