Creative Director Sabato De Sarno opens Milan Fashion Week

In September 2023, Sabato De Sarno showcased “Gucci Ancora,” his inaugural womenswear collection following Alessandro Michele’s departure. The fashion industry had been immersed in Alessandro’s maximalist style, leading fashion critics to think that Sabato’s collection was undercooked. Despite this, Sabato stood his ground, even crafting another “undercooked” collection as an extension of his prior presentation.

Examining the menswear, it distinctly echoes Sabato’s approach in the women’s division. First face models from both the Ancora and recent shows sported floor-length coats in gray, burgundy Jackies, chunky loafers and necklaces. The collection also showcased refined and polished ensembles in solid subdued color palette, some incorporating Gucci’s monogram, others adorned with sparkling embellishments, and occasional stripes, just like in the previous show but this time, fit for men.

A standout feature of the collection is Sabato’s presentation of the iconic Jackie bag. Amid the surge of gender-neutral accessories in the fashion realm, the Jackie proves itself as one of the label’s enduring and timeless silhouettes.

For Fall 2024, the iconic silhouette predominantly mirrors the overall aesthetic. Various looks featured the Jackie in shades of green pea, burgundy, mustard, and chocolate brown which looked like coordinated extensions of the jackets and gloves. Additionally, some iterations showcased sparkly and striped designs, while others boldly sported the label’s monogram mirroring head-to-toe ensembles.
