ICYMI: Sabato De Sarno is the newly-appointed creative director of Gucci

Exciting times ahead for the Italian luxury house

Following the underwhelming response to the latest fall 2023 men’s collection of Gucci, the collection which will “be judged more for what it wasn’t than what it was,” as per Vogue. Things are looking up for the house as its parent company Kering announced the arrival of its new creative director, Sabato De Sarno.

On an Instagram post, the luxury fashion house shared: “Gucci and Kering are pleased to announce that Sabato De Sarno will assume the role of Creative Director for the House. In his new role, De Sarno will lead the House’s Design Studio reporting to Marco Bizzarri, President and CEO of Gucci, with the responsibility for defining and expressing the House’s creative vision across the women’s, men’s, leather goods, accessories and lifestyle collections.”

Sabato started his career at Prada then in Dolce and Gabbana before his 12-year tenure at Valentino, where he worked closely with Pierpaolo Piccioli. With the appointment, the 39-year-old Italian designer will be responsible for all artistic choices for the fashion house. In true fashion with new appointments, all eyes will be on him come September.

In the past, Tom Ford brought raw sexiness to the fashion house while Alessandro Michele set the standards of glamorous maximalist for Gucci. Now, as Sabato takes over, will he be bringing the sophistication and elegance he contributed to Valentino? How does he plan to alter the current DNA of Gucci? Honestly, we can’t wait for Milan Fashion Week in September.
