LOOK: New Montblanc Star Legacy timepieces blue capsule
A design crafted from Minerva pocket watches and the stories of the Mont Blanc mountain
Did you know that Montblanc was inspired by the Mont Blanc mountain in western Europe? In 1903, the founders of the brand saw the mountain so exquisite that it has become a symbol of true luxury craftsmanship for the brand.
The emblem of the brand was also inspired by the six glacier valleys on the mountain and the model to the first Montblanc Star Legacy watch which was launched in 1997. Twenty-five years later, the first capsule gets energized with three new limited iterations: The Automatic Date 39mm, the Moonphase 42mm, and the Chronograph 42mm.
All three models are inspired by the Minerva pocket watches and intertwined with the Mont Blanc mountain. For the latest offering, the timepieces sport a blue colorway inspired by “The Blue Hour,” a time at dusk whenever the moon starts to rise and the star begins to shine giving the glaciers an intense color of blue.
The blue capsule also features layered ice design dials inspired by the Mer de Glace, the main glacier of the mountain, and rose-gold-coated indexes and hands, an ode to Jacques Balmat’s search for gold during his historic voyage to the summit back in 1786.
While all three of the models come from the same capsule, they are also identifiable from one another. The Automatic Date 39mm comes with the Montblanc emblem on the seconds hand and on the dial allowing them to cross paths every minute. For the Moonphase 42mm, this watch features phases of the moon at six o’clock, overlapping the glacier pattern on the background, while the Chronograph 42mm sports two leaf-shaped hands and two counters at three and nine o’clock.
The Montblanc Star Legacy collection features pebble-shaped cases and domed sapphire crystals front and back. For the straps, all three models get an iteration in stainless steel bracelets while the Chronograph 42mm and Moonphase 42mm come with a choice of a blue alligator leather strap and the Automatic Date 39mm with an option of blue calfskin leather strap.
