Fall 2022: Paul Smith’s latest collection is a love letter to the film industry
The collection is ‘inspired by the advent of avant-garde, arthouse, and New Wave cinema’
“The silver screen was a rich source of inspiration for our AW22 collection, from surrealist prints channeling Hollywood’s golden age stars to patterns recalling retro cinema theaters,” describes Paul Smith for the brand’s latest collection. Classic silhouettes are given an edit with either the materials used or the way the pieces are cut.
Corduroy is given floral print while jackets are highlighted with shearling trimming. For patterns, the house makes use of checks for long coats, trousers, and jackets. Zigzag patterns also appear on a number of fuzzy mohair sweaters and short-sleeved tops while the iconic Paul Smith pinstripe pattern is seen on a number of innerwear like pique shirts and turtlenecks. Muted colors of green, blue, and red are also used to mimic that vintage feel of retro films.
