A night for her: Women take over the Whisky Library
Celebrating Women’s Month, one cocktail at a time
This Women’s Month, The Whisky Library at Newport World Resorts is doing something different—handing over the bar to some of Asia’s most exciting female talents for one night only.
On March 25, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., the Library hosts “Women & Tipple,” a special takeover that brings together bartenders, creatives, and collaborators in a space built for both conversation and craft. It’s part of a growing series by Drink Collectiv, a platform that highlights the region’s bar community while creating opportunities for women to connect, create, and collaborate.
The evening kicks off with Claire Liu of Hope & Sesame in Guangzhou, currently ranked No. 7 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2025. Known for her sharp, technique-driven style and deep connection to Cantonese flavors, Claire brings a thoughtful approach to every drink she serves. For this event, she’s joined by Filipina model and DJ Christi McGarry, also known as DJ XI, who steps out from behind the decks and into the bar as Liu’s creative partner for the night.
From 9 p.m. onwards, Michelle Ong of Hong Kong’s COA—ranked No. 17 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2025 and previously a three-time No. 1 takes over. Michelle is known for her work with agave spirits and for pushing boundaries in cocktail culture. She’s paired with Gabs Gibbs, a Manila-based creative director and founder of Open House, whose work across design, photography, and community spaces brings a fresh perspective to the collaboration.
Together, these women present a lineup of cocktails shaped by shared stories, personal influences, and a mix of cultures. The drinks are crafted using a curated selection of spirits from Emperador Distillers, alongside support from women-led brands like The Blomstre and One Earth Organics.
More than just a guest shift, “Women & Tipple” is a celebration of Women’s Month that puts women firmly at the center—behind the bar, in the creative process, and in the conversations that happen around it.
