Hardcore Heat: Guys, grit, and raw physiques

From self-doubt to Superbods, Jether proves real strength starts within

From struggling with insecurity about being overweight as a child to winning the 2024 Century Tuna Superbods, Jether has used fitness not only to transform his physique but to fuel personal growth. “I’ve always seen these models—tall, in shape, and good-looking—and I always thought to myself, Why can’t I be like that?” he shares. “So slowly but surely, I went through this journey of self-growth and self-improvement to become one.”

Jether began his fitness journey with running, eventually transitioning to powerlifting. Now 22 and still a student, he believes fitness doesn’t have to be complicated. “As long as you do what you love, you’re doing it right,” he says. For him, it’s all about discovering your flow—and that philosophy applies just as much to building a summer body.

Read on for his fitness mindset, beach-day essentials, and why imperfection is the new sexy.

What’s your ideal summer day?
It starts at exactly 10:05 a.m.—with brunch, because I’m a huge brunch person. I love going on brunch dates, but solo brunches are great too. Then, I need a pick-me-up—either hitting the gym or going for a run. I’d end the day near the beach, watching the sunset.

What’s the most challenging part of staying fit?
Finding balance. Like, do I want to push myself today, or enjoy time out with friends? I often struggle between what I want to do and what I should do.

What’s the best part about being fit?
It gives you a sense of control over your life. I think we should only worry about the things we can control—and one of those is our health and fitness.

How do you define sexy?
I find imperfections sexy. I’ve always thought, Why does perfect have to be sexy? No one is perfect. You should be able to love your imperfections—that’s what makes you unique.

What’s something people wouldn’t know just by looking at you?
That I don’t know how to flirt! And that I play jazz piano—I’ve been playing since I was 12.

What’s your guilty pleasure?
Dark chocolate. I love that mix of bitterness and sweetness.

What’s your favorite kind of workout?
It’s not one specific move or routine—it’s the feeling I get when I tackle something hard, like running a longer distance or lifting heavier weight. That scary feeling, and then realizing I can do it.

What body part are you most proud of?
My eyes—specifically, my wink! A lot of people on social media know me for that.
