Aurner: A defiant bloom in the world of florals

Aesop’s latest fragrance dares to blend opposites, creating a floral unlike any other

Following the launch of Virere eau de parfum in 2024, Australian luxury cosmetics brand Aesop introduces Aurner, the house’s 12th fragrance.

Created in collaboration with perfumer Celine Barel, Aurner is described as “a defiant bloom,” challenging traditional perceptions of floral fragrances. “Aurner has been envisioned as a nonconformist floral,” Celine explains. “Embodying tensions like the fragility of the flowers versus the strength of the woods; the transparency of the bloom versus the solidity of the woods; fresh versus warm; vegetal versus metallic; feminine versus masculine; simple versus complex.”

The fragrance opens with a bright, zesty burst of citrus, laced with the spice of cardamom and pink pepper. Roman chamomile introduces an unexpected metallic edge, setting the stage for luminous, herbaceous magnolia leaf, while geranium adds floral and green nuances. At its foundation, rich sandalwood and cedar provide a grounding, woody depth.

The name Aurner originates from an Old Norse verb meaning “to be adorned, to be embellished with flowers”—a fitting tribute to the way this fragrance transforms the wearer.

Imagine a sunlit room, where time slows to a dreamlike haze. The golden glow of sunset caresses your skin as a delicate mist surrounds you, guiding you gently onto a bed strewn with crushed magnolia leaves. As you sink into its embrace, chamomile flowers and geranium petals lift into the air, stirred by your descent. They drift back down, grazing your face, arms, and legs before settling beside you. The sheets beneath you, infused with the scent of soft, cottony woods, lull you into a tranquil trance—eyes closing, breath deepening, lost in Aurner.
