Maximalist marvel: H&M teams up with Ev Bravado, Tela D’Amore, and Basquiat for a bold new collection

A 30-piece collection that brings Basquiat’s artistic legacy to life through the maximalist lens of fashion’s newest visionaries

H&M introduces a 30-piece capsule collection that marries maximalism with the art of Jean-Michel Basquiat, brought to life through the distinctive designs of Ev Bravado and Tela D’Amore.

While Basquiat’s art needs no introduction, Ev Bravado and Tela D’Amore are rising stars in the fashion industry. They were semi-finalists for the 2024 LVMH Prize and finalists for the 2023 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, gaining recognition for their meticulous garment distressing, particularly on denim.

“For us, Basquiat has always been an influential and larger than life figure. To be able to comb through his archives and select rarely referenced artworks is a blessing,” said Ev and Tela. The Basquiat estate has been super supportive of our unique vision. Providing this collection on a worldwide scale with H&M makes it ten times more special because it will be largely accessible.”

The collection features a diverse range of items including tailored pieces, jackets, short-sleeve shirts, jeans, hoodies, t-shirts, a dress, a skirt, and a corset top, as well as accessories. Highlights include a bomber jacket adorned with the vibrant “Ass Killer” (1984) artwork and embroidery of the designers’ signature arched window, a black blazer featuring Basquiat’s scribbles about jazz legends Charlie Parker and Miles Davis (“Discography 1,” 1984,) and luxe black leather trousers referencing “Untitled (Ideal)” (1988) and “Untitled (World Famous)” (1983). Standout pieces also include a unisex distressed denim jacket and matching jeans, showcasing Basquiat’s art within the recurring window design.

Ana Hernandez, H&M’s menswear designer expressed her enthusiasm for the collection: “Ev and Téla have translated Basquiat’s iconic art through a contemporary lens, resulting in a collection that feels new, meaningful and exciting,” she said. “They also have a deep understanding and connection to Basquiat’s life, values and art – and how it all resonates with today’s cultural climate. This collection follows their maximalist, ‘more is more’ designs, but the artistic approach really ties into Basquiat and makes the collaboration a standout.”
