Peter Do is the new creative director at Helmut Lang
Effective from May 15, 2023
On May 10, 2023, Helmut Lang officially announced the appointment of Vietnamese designer Peter Do as its creative director.
“Helmut Lang is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Do as the creative director, effective May 15, 2023,” stated the New York-based fashion house. “Peter will be responsible for overseeing all creative aspects of the women’s and men’s collections. His debut collection for the spring/summer 2014 season will be presented during New York Fashion Week in September. He will be based in the Helmut Lang design studio, located at Fast Retailing’s Design and Innovation Center in New York City, and will report to Dinesh Tandon, the chief executive officer of Helmut Lang.”
Previously, Peter had collaborated with Phoebe Philo at the RTW atelier at Celine, and later worked at Derek Lam. In 2018, Peter established his own label in New York City with his long-time friends. His designs are renowned for their youthful approach, featuring minimalist yet precise tailoring, architectural construction, and authentic textiles.
“No one personified radical thinking more than Helmut Lang,” expressed Peter. “It is an immense honor to be entrusted with shaping the next chapter of Helmut Lang’s legacy. I am excited to build upon the foundation that this house represents and to continue creating new, dynamic garments that inspire individuals to challenge their notions of self-expression.”
Peter also extended his gratitude to his colleagues, stating, “I would like to thank Yanai-san, Kazumi Yanai, Dinesh Tandon, and the teams at Helmut Lang and Fast Retailing for entrusting me with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity…and I eagerly anticipate engaging in meaningful conversations with all of you soon.”
