Dolce and Gabbana’s fall-winter 2022 presentation is an ode to Gen Z
Machine Gun Kelly takes center stage
Dolce and Gabbana’s fall-winter 2022 opened with musician Machine Gun Kelly (MGK) playing his music before hitting the runway. MGK walked the 30-meter runway in an all-white double-breasted suit with studs and spikes while rocking a lip ring, choker, earrings, and black nail polish to match.
We were used to D&G’s aesthetic of bejeweled clothing from the past seasons. Embellished jeans, suits, t-shirts, and crowns were made prominent for their spring-summer 2022 presentation. For this offering, gemstones were kept minimal and used varying types of textures like sheen, prints, colors. This runway was ruled by puffer jackets, metallic suits, graffiti-printed pieces which gave a grungy-feel that looked like a younger, hipper brother of their fall-winter 2021 collection. Skiing is one of the major plot points especially in reference to oversized sunglasses, beanies, and eco-fur boots.
This collection may fit the classic D&G look, but it sure does express spontaneity, freedom of self-expression, and radical style known to the new generation.
