Dior Men fall-winter 22 takes ‘50s fashion ‘On The Road’
Kim Jones references Jack Kerouac and the post-war era
Kim Jones kicked off menswear fashion week with Dior Men presenting its fall-winter 2022 collection in the designer’s hometown, London, England. Held at Olympia London, the fashion house unraveled a collection which borrowed references from Jack Kerouac, the Beat Generation movement, and ‘50s fashion.
“From the ‘On The Road’ manuscript scroll runway scenography to the final look leather blouson hand-painted with the original cover art of ‘Visions of Cody,’ the influence of Beat Generation founding member Jack Kerouac was palpable at the @OlympiaLondon unveiling of #DiorMenFall 2022 by @MrKimJones,” shares Dior on their page. “The worlds he evoked in print were translated through the mix of outdoorsy accents like techno silk shorts and hiking boots with rope detailing on a ‘Saddle Soft’ bag, and the Beat Generation’s characteristic Fair Isle knitted sweaters given a more couture makeover with sequin embroideries.”
The models looked like high-fashion soldiers who just got back from the war wearing pattern-over-pattern pieces, deconstructed coats that look like hybrid vest and backpacks, shimmering sweaters and headwear, and cropped loose trousers while holding signature Dior bags.
