Introducing The Kit wardrobe series for men

After taking a break in 2020, Phillip Lim is back with a new menswear offering. The break was really for the American designer “to take a moment to breathe….To think about the act of joyful creation again,” as WWD reports.

And now that the hiatus has come to an end, he’s relaunching the 3.1 Phillip Lim men’s line with The Kit. “These kits establish a purposeful set of essential seasonal pieces that specialize in functionality, ease, and style; easily fitting into the framework of the modern 3.1 man,” the brand posts on Instagram.

So who is the new 3.1 Phillip Lim man? The designer says: “He follows his own path, sets his own rules, and refuses to be defined. Always evolving, each kit exudes a certain vibe, not in how it’s worn but how he carries it. It will continuously build from the concept of wardrobing, allowing him to be present for whatever his journey may be. He wears it with confidence, intelligence, and ease.”

For its design aspect, the designer tells of the evolution of the 3.1 man. “When we were redesigning men’s, we wanted to go off instinct; what pieces felt essential to his wardrobe,” he tells. “It is a reboot and rebuilding of the pieces he needs to create his perfect wardrobe. The kits are meant to be styled within each other. This is Kit 1, Kit 2 is dropping in the fall. Stay tuned.”
