Would you bid on the Nike Air Yeezy 1 prototype?

The Nike Air Yeezy 1 was first unveiled back in 2008 when American rapper Kanye West wore the sneakers during his “Stronger” and “Hey Mama” performances for the 50th Grammy Awards. Now, the footwear that kick-started the artist’s multibillion-dollar Yeezy brand is being privately sold by auction house Sotheby’s, with a value of $1 million.

The “Grammy Worn” sneakers were entirely made for artists in mind rather than athletes, featuring a tonal swoosh on the overlay along with a Yeezy forefoot strap and the brand’s iconic “Y” medallion lace locks. The sneakers will also come enclosed in a custom wooden box embellished with a design by Mark Smith, Kanye’s collaborator for the shoes.

The size 12 sneakers, courtesy of New York collector Ryan Chang, will most likely be the most expensive sneakers ever sold by Sotheby’s. Michael Jordan’s 1985 Air Jordan 1 sneakers, which sold for $560,000, will follow this historic sale.

The sneakers will be available for viewing and for private selling at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from April 16 to April 21, 2021.
