NOW HAPPENING: Art for Everyone
This August, SM Supermalls are turning their activity areas into exciting art fair spaces with the launch of the second installment of Art for Everyone. Running from August 23 to 27 in SM Aura Premier, SM Mall of Asia, SM City Dasmariñas, SM City Baguio, and other select SM malls; and until August 31 in SM Megamall, the art fair is one of the many events featured in SM Supermall’s month-long arts and culture celebration.
With the grand launch held in SM Megamall last Wednesday, the 2017 edition of Art for Everyone showcases the creative diversity of student artists in the country. Curated by Dr. Patrick Flores from the University of the Philippines’ Vargas Museum, the fair aims to “reflect how vibrant and lively the production of art is in the various schools [that have] art programs across the country.” He continues, “It is a harvest of the art of the youth.”
Among the featured schools are University of the Philippines Diliman and Manila, De La Salle University-College of St. Benilde, Far Eastern University, University of Makati, Southville International School, CIIT College of Arts and Technology-Quezon City, I-Academy, and the Philippine Women’s University, to name a few. See the complete listing below:
“We noticed that there [has] been growing enthusiasm from the youth whenever we hold art-related events in our malls,” shares SM Supermalls Senior Vice President Jonjon Agustin. “We want to nourish that youthful passion, and what better way than to give them a space for their craft in our malls where they get a wider audience [through] our customers.”
All art pieces displayed during the fair are for sale and can be readily purchased on ground. With this, “Art for Everyone helps provide the opportunity to support young artists professionally and creatively,” Dr. Flores says. “Allowing them to reach their audience and public and giving them the chance to survive in a very competitive art world.”
