Butterfly Effect: Uniqlo x Needles

The Japanese cult label gives fleece a stylish new flight just in time for colder days

As the “Amihan” season approaches and temperatures start to dip, Uniqlo and Needles offer the perfect excuse to upgrade your cozy wear. The new Uniqlo and Needles Fleece Collection, dropping October 31, 2025, reimagines classic fleece pieces with the Japanese label’s effortlessly cool aesthetic, just in time for breezy days and holiday travel.

Founded in 1995 by Keizo Shimizu, Needles grew from his decades of global fashion experience and his Tokyo-based store, Nepenthes. Known for its relaxed tailoring, signature butterfly motif, and reworked vintage flair, the brand has long been a cult favorite among those who prefer understated individuality over loud trends.

This first collaboration between Uniqlo and Needles marries function and finesse in three pieces: the Fleece Full-Zip Jacket, Oversized Cardigan, and Wide Pants. All come in rich, minimal tones like black, gray, beige, and purple which carry Needles’s distinct design touches like stripes and refined silhouettes.

The result? Wardrobe staples that feel both familiar and fresh. The full-zip jacket’s 1970s-inspired shape fits perfectly into everyday wear, while the oversized cardigan adds relaxed polish whether you’re layering for a flight or a city stroll. And the wide pants bring a tailored edge to casual comfort which are ideal for those cool December nights.

As Keizo Shimizu himself put it “By adding the butterfly motif and silhouette to give Uniqlo’s signature fleece a Needles feel, we have created iconic and special items.”
