LOOK: Bulgari’s best-kept secret now reborn

The fragrance that started as a ‘thank you’ now with a modern twist

Long before they hit boutique shelves or became cult classics, Bulgari’s Eau Parfumée fragrances were… well, a secret. Not a marketing secret but an actual gift, handed out quietly to a select few. When Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert launched in 1992, it wasn’t for sale. It was a fragrant thank-you, reserved for the maison’s top jewelry clients. But as with any truly good secret, word got out.

Created by legendary perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena, Thé Vert was groundbreaking. The world’s first tea-inspired scent, it captured the crisp, grassy brightness of green tea with a minimalist touch that felt wildly different from the bold, overcomplicated fragrances of the time. It was subtle, genderless, and quietly addictive. And unsurprisingly, people wanted more. Bulgari obliged and a new olfactory era was born.

In 2003, the story continued with Eau Parfumée au Thé Blanc, dreamed up by Master Perfumer Jacques Cavallier. This time, the star was white tea from China which is softer, silkier, and gently musky. Where Thé Vert was invigorating, Thé Blanc was calming. Like matching robes in a five-star spa, they complemented each other perfectly.

Now in 2025, both fragrances are back with a twist. Reimagined as more concentrated eau de toilettes and updated using modern technology, they finally feature actual tea extracts, something perfumers could only dream of in the ’90s.

In its reborn form, Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert opens with zesty Italian bergamot, mandarin, and lemon, before unfolding into a fresh heart of real green tea extract, neroli petals, and cardamom. It finishes with a soft trail of musk and wood with a fresh, unfussy elegance that’s 94 percent natural-origin and 100 percent timeless.

Eau Parfumée au Thé Blanc, on the other hand, starts with a whisper of artemisia and white pepper, giving way to a creamy core of Chinese white tea extract and white blossoms. It lingers with warm notes of ambrette, musk, and amber wood, wrapping you in a clean, calming cocoon that’s 89 percent natural and totally cozy.
