Gold’s Gym x Metcon launches premier Hyrox training facility in Manila

The club opens with the Grin Method, elite coaching, and recovery built in

A new chapter in Philippine fitness begins as Gold’s Gym x Metcon officially launches its state-of-the-art Hyrox training facility at the Venice Grand Canal Mall in McKinley Hill, Taguig. Spanning 750 square meters, the facility is purpose-built for Hyrox preparation and competition, marking a significant milestone for the local fitness community.

Hyrox, a global fitness racing format, continues to gain momentum across Asia, with major events already taking place in cities such as Taipei and Bangkok. The format blends endurance and strength in a standardized structure: participants complete eight rounds of 1-kilometer runs, each followed by a functional workout station. Exercises include rowing, sled pushes and pulls, wall balls, and burpee broad jumps. Unlike CrossFit, which often changes its programming, Hyrox maintains a consistent format worldwide, allowing athletes to compare their results globally.

At the core of this new training destination is the Grin Method, a proprietary system developed by fitness coach Anton Sietereales. Designed specifically to meet the demands of Hyrox, the Grin Method emphasizes endurance, strength, and movement efficiency. However, the method extends beyond competition-focused training and offers practical benefits for everyday fitness.

“The Grin Method is built on functional training that prepares you for real-life movement—not just gym routines,” said Anton. “It focuses on helping you move better, get stronger, and stay injury-free, with long-term health and longevity in mind. Whether your goal is to travel, try new sports, or just keep up with daily life, Grin equips you physically and mentally for it all.”

Justin Hernandez and Anton Sietereales

The coaching team is led by Justin Hernandez, a trailblazer in Philippine fitness and the first Filipino male athlete to compete at the CrossFit Games. A four-time CrossFit Open National Champion, Hernandez believes local athletes have tremendous potential in Hyrox, thanks to their natural combination of endurance and strength.

“We use functional training to help you build all-around fitness: strength, endurance, speed, power, agility, and more,” Justin explained. “Then we mix in bodybuilding to keep your body balanced and make sure no muscle gets left behind. Adding bodybuilding to the mix doesn’t just make you look better—it also boosts your performance and helps prevent injuries.”

To demonstrate the gym’s capabilities, the launch event featured the H-700 Challenge, a condensed yet intense Hyrox-style workout. Two certified Grin Method coaches—Tinoy Borromeo, a commercial pilot and professional model, and Mauro Lumba, a Muay Thai medalist and Century Tuna Superbods 2014 winner—competed in a head-to-head workout.

While Hyrox is the primary focus, the new McKinley Hill location is designed to be a comprehensive fitness destination. Beyond traditional strength and functional training zones, it also houses the Boombox boxing club, the Cobrinha Manila Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Club, and a premium recovery suite featuring ice baths and saunas—ensuring that performance and recovery go hand in hand.

According to Edmundo Luis R. Vega, owner of Gold’s Gym Powered by Metcon, this facility represents a new benchmark for training in the Philippines. “Our facility is also equipped with the best functional training equipment in the country, supplied by Metcon, the leading provider of high-performance gym equipment in the Philippines,” he shared. “From sleds to SkiErgs, rowers, and more, we’ve invested in tools that support real athletic development.”

To celebrate its opening, Gold’s Gym x Metcon is offering a limited Founding Membership Package. Priced at P8,500 per month for the first 50 members, the package includes personalized Grin Method programming, tailored nutrition guidance, full access to the thermal recovery suite, and exclusive Founding Member gear.
