Dusit Davao opened back in Sept. 2019. Unfortunately, when the pandemic struck, celebrations were put to halt, having the hotel miss big celebrations like Davao’s Kadayawan. In July 2022, dusitD2 Davao and Dusit Thani Residence Davao were finally able to celebrate the festival with a bang as they launched their first-ever Kadayawan event.

“As we appreciate the Kadayawan Festival, may we all be reminded about its importance. It’s not a mere celebration to have fun, it is a celebration to thank God for all the abundance and blessings we have received,” said Kadayawan Executive Committee Member Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre.

The event officially opened with the ceremonial banging of the gong led by General manager Christoph Kuch, and witnessed by Councilors Al Ryan Alejandre, Bernie Al-ag, and Myrna Ortiz, Department of Tourism Regional Director Tanya Rabat-Tan, Torre Lorenzo Development Corporation Chief Operations Officer Cathy Ko, and Cluster Director of Sales and Marketing Lannie Merilo.

Furthering commitment to hospitality and promotion of Davao’s bests, the celebration highlighted fashion and arts from Ninofranco and Kathryn Fanlo. A mini runway show delighted guests after dinner featuring fashion pieces from Wilson Limon and accessories from Kathryn.

Executive Sous Chef Christopher Lugtu and his team also prepared an array of dishes to showcase culinary prowess of Dusit Davao. Tribal dishes like Piassak from the Tausugs, Landang from the Maguindanaons, Linotlot nga Manok from the Jangans, and Wadjet Makadurian from the Sama group were included on the menu, along with Dusit’s signature, the cochinillo.

Before the night ended, a promise to commit and eventually adopt a Philippine Eagle were made. General Manager Christoph shared, “We are allotting a part of our revenue for the benefit of the Philippine Eagle Foundation. We will remain transparent and educational on this initiative, in order for our guests to believe in the same advocacy, and be catalysts to raise awareness on the conservation of our national bird and other species.”
