ICYMI: Celebrating the 8th International Day of Yoga at SM Mall of Asia

With this year’s theme “Yoga for Humanity,” the Indian Embassy in the Philippines and SM Mall of Asia joined together to celebrate the 8th International Day of Yoga at the Music Hall of SM Mall of Asia last month.

The celebration was led by Indian Ambassador H.E. Shambhu S. Kumaran and wife Mme. Amrita Singh Kumaran. For the opening, the traditional ceremonial dance of “Ganesh Stuti” was presented, signifying the start of something positive and auspicious. A video message from Honorable Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi was shown shortly after, wherein he said that ‘Yoga for Humanity’ appropriately portrays how yoga helped in alleviating the suffering during the peak of Covid-19 pandemic.

The Common Yoga Protocol was developed by the Government of India together with leading yoga gurus and schools in the country. This, in turn, helps make yoga practices available to all. At the event, the Common Yoga Protocol was experienced with “Chalakriyas” or Loosening Practices and followed with a powerful yoga pose “Surya Namaskar,” “Yogasana,” and “Pranayama.” These were led by yoga practitioners and advocates Janice Cuevas, Chandru Mahtani, and Clara Day Herrera.
