Dolce and Gabbana’s latest eyewear piece doubles as face shield

Would you wear these sunglasses?

As Filipinos are now having their vaccine shots, many can’t wait for the day when they can toss their personal protective gears aside and go out mask-free and without wearing a face shield. While that day is becoming a reality day by day, it looks like fashion label Dolce and Gabbana isn’t over protective wearables just yet.

The Italian luxury brand launches its latest line of vintage looking eyewear for women—but men can surely wear them as well. Oversized tinted lenses—rounds, squares, and cat eyes—are made more sophisticated and eclectic with the house’s play on frames mixing metals and mother of pearls to create truly elegant pieces. But what caught our eyes is the line’s geometric transparency sunglasses, which awfully looks like, you know, our synthetic face shields.

According to the brand’s website, the eyewear piece has an “avant garde shape, cutting-edge design, and vitamin tones,” and pays tribute to the aesthetic and retro energy of the ’60s. It is made of nylon fiber frame and has 100 percent UV protection. A chic metalwork with the house’s emblem puts a stylish stamp on the eyewear. But what makes it so similar to our face shield is the piece’s nose pad.

“Inspired by a youthful fascination for the spirit and colors of the ’60s, Dolce and Gabbana makes a bold statement of energy and cutting-edge design,” the brand posted.

Dolce and Gabbana’s geometric transparency sunglasses are priced at $561. So, that’s P27,000. The question now is: Are you wear this designer face shield, er, eyewear?
