Lil Nas X releases controversial sneakers containing human blood

Nike denies any involvement with the design and release of “Satan Shoes.” The sportswear brand also does not endorse the footwear.

From dropping the “Jesus Shoes” filled with holy water back in 2019, MSCHF reveals another controversial merchandise drop with American musican Lil Nas X. This time, the duo releases a pair of sneakers called “Satan Shoes,” which contains a drop of human blood. The footwear also features an inverted cross and bronze pentagram design elements.

Together with the release of Lil Nas X’s music video “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” which is a story of “a queer angel’s fall from heaven” lap dancing to the devil, the artist drops yet another viral offering to his fans while garnering criticism from religious and political figures.

The “Satan Shoes” features Nike Air Max 97s in black and red colorways. Launched as another limited-edition drop, there will be 666 pairs to be customized and sell for US$1,018. The sole contains 60cc ink and one drop of human blood drawn from members of MSCHF’s team, the company told EW.

In a statement by the rapper, the collab was a nod to the bible verse Luke 10:18 which reads, “So he told them, ‘I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.'”
